Day 5 of Our Trip On Holland America to Alaska

On day 5, we arrived in Sitka. We dined in the dining room for breakfast and then we headed straight off the ship. We didn’t have a planned excursion in Sitka, so we just went with the flow. We ended up taking a complimentary shuttle to downtown Sitka. Here, we walked into shops and explored.

Then, we purchased an excursion to see local bears and birds. We were taken to a location where the state takes care of the bears that do not have mothers. Unfortunately, their mothers were killed by locals. The admission is $15 per person and $10 per person for the bus ride there. It was very interesting to see the bears. However, the bus leaves you there for an hour and it probably only takes 20 minutes to see the bears.

Once we got back downtown, we went to a recommended restaurant called Westmark Sitka. We had the fish and chips. It was the best fish and chips that I’ve ever had in my life! It’s made from fresh, local halibut. It was sooo good!

Once we were back in the ship, we took a nap that went through dinner. So, we ordered some fruit from room service and headed to the 9 pm magic show. The show was pretty cool. It involved a lot of audience participation, loads of laughs, and amazing magic tricks.

1. Sometimes, the guests can see the northern lights in the Holland America Cruise! The cruise director will inform you if it’s possible.
