Junior's Cheesecake: A Taste of New York in South Florida
For more than half a century, people have traveled to New York for the world renowned Junior's cheesecake. Now, Floridians no longer have to travel or dream of the coveted Junior's cheesecake because it's right in their backyard. Junior's Restaurant opened its Boca Raton location in 2017, and South Floridians flocked to taste New York's beloved cheesecake. Junior's Restaurant has answered the prayers of many. The orange accents on their logo and art-deco ambiance fits the sunshine state so well, and leave us wondering what took so long for them to come down to the sunshine state.
Junior's Restaurant is a traditional New York deli/diner that is known for its cheesecakes. However, they offer a full menu ranging from breakfast to sandwiches, salads, steaks, and seafoods. to indulge in all of your New York favorites. Many people go to the restaurant for the cheesecake, and end up falling in love with the food.
I'm originally from New York and I can remember family members talking about Junior's Restaurant from my childhood. Yet, I have never tried it. So, I was just as excited as everyone else when Junior's Restaurant opened in Boca Raton. My husband and I love going to Boca Raton on a Saturday afternoon. Mizner Park has great shopping, outdoor events, and of course, Junior's Cheesecake Restaurant. A few Saturdays ago, my husband and I stopped by Junior's Restaurant to take a break from Florida, and have a New York culinary experience.
My husband decided to have breakfast and I opted for lunch. For breakfast he ordered " The Lumberjack." It came with 2 griddle cakes, 2 eggs (any style), bacon or sausage with home fries, grits, or sliced tomato and any choice of toast. The griddle cakes are fantastic! They are easily on my top 5 list of pancakes and I would return just for the pancakes (a.k.a. griddle cakes). They are so moist and fluffy that they made me continue to eat off of my husband's plate. I couldn't help myself!
For my lunch, I ordered the traditional cheeseburger and french fries/onion rings. It comes with coleslaw, pickles, and pickled beets. The burger is 10 oz, the onion rings are tasty, and the I really enjoyed the coleslaw. The coleslaw is made with vinegar and sugar, so it provides the cabbage with a sweet kick.
For dessert, my husband wanted to try something light, so he ordered the yogurt parfait. This could have been his entire breakfast. It's greek yogurt with granola, blueberries, and the same juicy strawberries that they use on the cheesecake. It even came with a small container of honey to drizzle over this yogurt treat. I'm not a big breakfast person, so this light and sweet treat would be perfect for me.
I couldn't go to Junior's Restaurant without trying the cheesecake. The two most ordered cheesecakes are the plain cheesecake and the strawberry cheesecake. I had no idea that there were so many cheesecake flavors: strawberry, cherry, blueberry, pineapple, chocolate swirl, raspberry swirl, red velvet, carrot cake, and even diabetic friendly cheesecake. In addition, they also make desserts and cakes that do not have any cheesecake in them at all! I ordered the carrot cake cheesecake. I'm a huge carrot cake fan, so I thought it would be a great pair. The cheesecake reminded me of the traditional New York cheesecake flavor. However, it was less dense and a lot softer in taste than I thought it would be. There is a clear distinction between Florida's version of cheesecake and the New York cheesecake, and I am thrilled that Floridians get an opportunity to taste both.

Would I recommend it: Absolutely! Junior's Restaurant reminded me of the diners that I used to go to as a kid in New York. However, it has a cool vintage edge. This a great place to take the family or friends
