Hank and Harry's: NY Deli Classics in Miami Beach

Hank & Harry's Delicatessen is a New York style deli navigating its way into the hearts of the residents of Miami, FL. The restaurant was started by Buzzy Sklar and Rhichard Booth because of the need for an authentic New York deli in Miami Beach. What was once a thought has manifested into three successful locations!

Northerners have migrated to Florida for decades for a sunnier lifestyle, but they often miss the diverse flavors that New York has to offer. Due to Hank & Harry's, Floridians are enjoying the deli classics that they know and love. As a former New Yorker myself, I know that you can't beat a NY pizza, bagel, or deli sandwich. So, I was excited to taste Hank & Harry's Delicatessen to see if it would take me back to the streets of Long Island. My husband and I stopped by the Hank & Harry's deli on Michigan Ave last Sunday afternoon. It's a quaint deli with the traditional black and white checkered tiled floor, white tiled walls, and the staff members were dressed in long, white deli coats. Despite its classic touch, I could tell that it was extremely modern because of its clean and polished appearance, a computerized deli app to provide the opportunity for customers to order in advance, and a savvy board of hot and cold sandwiches, subs, salads, soups, and food off of the grill to choose from.

Hank & Harry's has so many options, but I had to go with the traditional "NY Hot Corned Beef" (extra lean) sandwich and a side of potato salad, I got the seedless rye bread, but you can choose to have your sandwich on white bread, wheat bread, a kaiser roll, bagel, wrap, or sub roll. Then, they give you the option to add veggie toppings and condiments to the sandwich. Hank & Harry's do not hold back on the meat! Like any traditional NY deli, they offer a pound of meat per sandwich. There was so much in one serving that I couldn't finish it all!

My husband ordered the "Godfather Sub." This sub is served on fresh baked bread and topped with ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone cheese, sweet peppers, onions, lettuce, tomato, oil, and red wine vinegar. I only planned on taking a bite of his sub. However, I ended up eating half of it! The "Godfather Sub" lived up to its name. I felt like I needed to put my fingers together and place them at my lips for a true kiss of perfection. The sub roll was so soft and moist. I felt like I could eat the entire roll by itself. The ham, salami, pepperoni, and provolone cheese worked so well together. I loved it! My husband ordered french fries with his sub. They were the traditional fries that I used to have when I was a child at the diners in New York with the ridges. There was no need to ask my husband if he liked his french fries because they were devoured within minutes.

Extra information: Hank & Harry's are continually expanding their menu and including northeast traditions such as jalapeno and cheese fries, shaved pastrami, and dinner options.

Hank & Harry's have two new locations in South Miami (5958 S. Dixie Highway) and in the new food hall at Aventura Mall. Before you know it, we might be able to get a little taste of New York throughout the entire sunshine state.

Would I recommend it: If you're looking for a quick bite at lunch, Hank & Harry's is a great option. New Yorkers , Floridians, and all the people in between should check out Hank & Harry's. Email me at contactus@thefloridapalate.com to let me know what you think.
