Prince Waikiki: One of Waikiki's Newest Hotels
Traveling to Hawaii can be overwhelming. Which island should I go to? Which hotel should I stay at? What type of experience do we want? Trust me, all of these questions crossed my mind. My husband and I decided to start our Hawaii trip in Honolulu/Waikiki. We wanted to find a hotel that possessed Hawaii tradition but was modern and chic enough for us to feel like we were having a luxurious vacation. After surfing through all the hotels in Waikiki, we felt like we found the perfect balance in Prince Waikiki. Prince Waikiki has a casual-luxury ambiance at a great price. It makes you feel like you're in Hawaii, without the cheesy commercial/touristy approach often seen on television.
Quality: For those of you that have been to Hawaii and have never heard of Prince Waikiki its because it recently went through a 55 million dollar renovation. It changed its name from Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club to Prince Waikiki. As you stroll through the hotel, you will see the time, effort, and money that went into making this establishment look so beautiful.
Service: When you enter the hotel, it is open and airy. There are smiling faces at the counters waiting to help you get the vacation of your lifetime started. The front desk and concierge service have been groomed well and offer the highest form of hospitality. They are very helpful and seem like they genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. When we arrived in our room we were greeted with a nice array champagne and fruit. It was such a nice touch, especially because it was personalized with our names and the envelope was hand written.
On the first floor of the hotel, there is a coffee cafe named Honolulu Coffee Company. I stopped by and ordered an Acai bowl. The cashier came over to my table and asked me how I was enjoying my breakfast. He handed me some macademian honey in a small container and told me that it would make it taste even better. I was blown away. He really wanted me to have a great breakfast and was thoughtful enough to bring me some honey. I was totally impressed!
The service at the fifth floor pool is not as great as the main lobby. The ladies are a little slow with taking orders and attending to the guests by the pool. The staff to guest ratio could be better in this location.
Cleanliness: The resort is extremely clean. The lobby, rooms, pool, and outside area are immaculate. The Prince Waikiki staff pays close attention to the details and consistently offer a beautiful hotel.
Price: The price at this hotel is extremely reasonable and comparable to any beach resort in South Florida. I was blown away by the price. As we all know, Hawaii is one of the most expensive states in the country. However, Prince Waikiki has managed to offer a casual luxury setting at a great price. Next time, we may pay a few extra dollars to get a suite. Even the suites are reasonable and the views and living quarters are worth the extra money.
Experience: For my Florida residents, this is the perfect resort to go to if you want to be close to the beach, cruise ship, mall, and the downtown Waikiki area. We could see the beach from our room and it was just a short walk away. The cruise ship was about 10-15 minutes away and you can easily get Lyft or Uber to take you to the port. In the afternoons, my husband and I walked around for hours exploring the downtown area, the mall, and the local stores. The area is very busy and there is always something to do.
Extra information: This resort is child friendly. They don't have water slides, child entertainment, and an arcade room but I did see children enjoying the pool, beach, and surrounding activities. The hotel has a gym, spa, and a few restaurants. The gym is small but it has the essential equipment needed to get the job done. 100 Sails is the main restaurant on the premises, besides the coffee cafe and bar on the fifth floor. The food is good, but there are better options outside of the hotel that are not as expensive and more authentic.
Would I recommend it: Absolutely! I would definitely go back to this hotel. I highly recommend it for any of my family and friends. The price drew me in, but the staff, views, and ambiance made me fall in love with Prince Waiki and the island of Oahu.
