LakeHouse is the Newest Member of Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Hotel

LakeHouse is the newest addition to the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress hotel in Orlando. Some may call it the new kid on the block, but once you dine there you will quickly realize that it has found its place in the Orlando dining scene. It is nestled on the ground floor of the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress hotel, overlooking the lush property and private lake. LakeHouse is a causal restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It has a diverse menu for sushi lovers, carnivores, pizza fans, and they even have vegetarian dishes. LakeHouse opened its doors in 2016, and it continues to serve the guests of the hotel, convention center, and local visitors.

My husband and I were staying at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress hotel, so LakeHouse was a very convenient choice for dinner. We hopped on the elevator (avoided the traffic on I-4) and headed to the lobby. As we approached the restaurant from the main floor, we overlooked the entire restaurant from a spiraling staircase. The restaurant felt warm and inviting, and it was almost impossible not to become distracted by the tall glass windows overlooking the property. The walls were draped with wood and warm hues and made you feel like you were at an actual lake house; a lake house that happened to have sky high ceilings and hospitable servers to meet your hunger needs. Okay, in that case, it may be a little different from the lake houses that you’re used to going to as a child.

We started off with drinks. Our server, Ouissom, helped us out in this department. He recommended a few of the restaurant’s top sellers. There were so many options to choose from, but we finally decided on the “Passion Fruit Lychee” and the “Lakeside Breeze.” I chose the passion fruit drink because of the lychees. I am a huge fan of lychees, and I can eat them by themselves, in a salad, and now in my first lychee cocktail! Unfortunately, there were no lychees in my drink, but I could still taste it with each sip. My husband’s “Lakeside Breeze” came with Absolut vodka, fresh blueberries, citron strawberries, mint, and cucumbers. It was so refreshing! It tasted like a spa treatment in a glass! The cucumbers and mint were very tranquil, and after a long drive on the road (earlier in the day), it was only reasonable for me to finish his drink for him.

Our appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. We ordered the fried calamari and sushi rolls. The calamari was amazing; warm and crisp on the outside and tender within. We ordered California rolls and eel rolls. I have never eaten eel, nor have I had an eel sushi roll, but my palate was delightfully surprised by how much I loved it. Ouissom boasted about the sushi chefs at LakeHouse, but I really became a believer after a few bites of my sushi roll.

By the time we ordered our entrees I was already becoming full, so I chose a light dish, the “LakeHouse Seafood Bowl.” It came with scallops, clams, shrimp, and mussels over a seafood broth. It was a delicate dish packed with great flavor. The herb broth embodied all the seafood flavors, and it reminded me a shrimp soup that my grandmother used to make for me as a child.

If I thought I had reached my brim, Ouissom brought out the dessert menu. Of course, it wasn’t a list of desserts that I could read about and pretend not to like. He came with a tray of all the LakeHouse treats on a platter. My husband and I decided to pace ourselves, we had to walk out of this restaurant at some point. Since I didn’t see a barrel or a service that would carry us to our room, we decided to share the chocolate s’mores ice cream. This dessert is more than enough for two, and could possibly even serve three people. The chocolate was very rich and the ice cream was a nice balance.

As you can see, we had a great dinner at the LakeHouse and we will return, even when we aren’t staying at the hotel. Either way, I don’t think I have an option, I must go back because the sushi has been calling my name since I left the restaurant!

Extra information: LakeHouse diners receive validated parking. Great meal choice for families, couples, and business meetings. There are other restaurants and a small market at the Hyatt Regency GrandCypress hotel as well. Enjoy a meal and tell us about it!
