Yard House: Hallandale - Gulfstream Park
Yard House is a casual American restaurant that has 6 locations in Florida. Recently, we took some friends to their Hallandale - Gulfstream Park location for a birthday celebration. We were looking for a great night out to share some laughs and catch up with each other.
When I walked into Yard House, I was greeted by the Friday night buzz of people letting their hair down and enjoying themselves. The Yard House energy and atmosphere reminded me of a mix between a relaxed restaurant and a higher-end sports bar that you could bring your significant other, family, or friends.
I knew that we were in for a treat once our drinks were served. My husband ordered the "Hawaiian Pacific Mule," but after I stole a sip it quickly became mine. Yard House introduced me to my first "mule." Not a male donkey as our non-drinkers would think. Okay, I'll admit it. I never heard of a mule drink before, nor would I ever think it would become my Yard House drink of choice. Yet, I loved it! It is made with vodka and ginger beer. Maybe my Jamaican roots were calling [Jamaicans are known for ginger beer], but I can't wait to go back just to order this drink again. The ginger has a kick with a sweet aftertaste.
For appetizers, we ordered the "Grilled Korean Barbeque Beef." Now, this was not a typical appetizer. It has small pieces of glazed barbecue beef with rice. So, it was more like a small meal than an appetizer. However, we were really hungry, so it served as a perfect mini-meal before the meal. The meat was tender and seasoned well. It could be a perfect meal for one at lunch or a meal for a child that had a more sophisticated palate than hamburgers and fries.
Sade, our server, had steered us in the right directions for drinks and appetizers so I gave her full authority to choose my dinner entree. She suggested the boneless fried chicken breast. I don't usually eat fried chicken at restaurants. I'm not a health nut (you've seen my site), it's just that I don't find fried chicken to be a delicacy that I would order when dining at a restaurant. However, after Sade brought that Hawaiian mule. I would have ordered anything that she suggested. Her magical powers were in tune with my taste buds and I was ready to see what else she took out of her hat (I mean tray). My fried boneless chicken was everything I could hope for. I closed my eyes, tapped my right foot, and tuned out the conversation because an entree this good deserved my undivided attention. Many of you don't know this, but the breast is my favorite part of the chicken. Many people steer away from chicken breast because it can easily be overcooked and very dry. Yard House serves a thick piece of chicken breast that is beyond juicy! My boneless chicken breast came with sides that included beans and creamed corn. My friend and my husband ordered the rib eye steak and it was done perfectly. I had to control myself. I already took my husband's drink. I didn't want to take his entree too! So, I kept my fork to myself after diving into his plate a few times.
By dessert, I was pretty full. However, my husband had two rounds of the banana creme brulee! We've been married for 10 years, and I have never seen him so this before. Who orders two rounds of desserts!? Well, he's married to a foodie, so I guess it's a match made in heaven.
I went into the night not knowing what to expect, and I left really happy with our choice. We had great food, top notch customer service, and ol'friends to share the evening with.
Would I recommend it: I've already recommended it to two of my friends! It is a great hang out for American comfort food and interesting drinks that you typically don't see on your local bar's menu.
