I heard about "Hello Fresh" from an ad online, and I was pretty interested. I live a very busy life with long shifts and minimal time to make the meals that I used to make in my pre-marriage days. Lol! Ladies, you know which meals I'm talking about. The meals that make your date say "wow," it taste so good that he tells his mother, or he drops down to one knee and proposes type of meals. Don't misinterpret me! I still cook my husband dinner. I just don't spend all day cooking my husband dinner. When I was in my early twenties I had so much time on my hands. I would go to class or work, and come home and not know what to do with myself. I was so bored that I would come up with new recipes to cook. I can't remember the last time I said, "I'm bored." Seriously, a nap could cure any tinge of boredom that came into my life right about now.
When I saw the "Hello Fresh" ad, my mind began to race. So, I can prepare quick and healthy meals each night without searching through my pantry for missing ingredients, running to the supermarket to find a peculiar item that none of the employees had ever heard of, and literally have everything placed on my doorstep each week. Sign me up!
When I signed up for "Hello Fresh," I had the option to pick between the Classic plan, Veggie Plan, and Family plan. Since I was only cooking for my husband and myself, and I'm a big meat/seafood lover we chose the Classic Plan. I was surprised that I wasn't able to pick my recipe choices for the week because even though I'm a foodie, I prefer some meals more than others. However, I quickly learned that new recipes are sent out each week based on the plan that you chose.
Jamie Oliver is an amazing chef and he has partnered with "Hello Fresh" to allow you to make chef-inspired meals in your kitchen. I was pleased to know that a renowned chef is involved in the process because I didn't want to start cooking a box of bland corporate dinners for my family.
My box arrived at my doorstep! I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I couldn't wait to look inside my package and decide what I would cook first. My insulated box came with the number of meals appropriate to the plan that I chose, fresh ingredients, and a little book with the recipes and pictures.
I could already see that the presentation of "Hello Fresh" was superior to "HomeChef," a home delivery service that I had used prior to ordering from "Hello Fresh." The ingredients had better packaging and you could see where the products were purchased from.
I laid all of the ingredients out in front of me and I followed the directions listed. The first night, and every night after, I created amazing meals that looked like they belonged in a restaurant, but somehow I was creating them in less than 35 minutes! By the way, the flavor is enormous. I think my husband and I did a couple happy food dances (happy food dance = movement of one's body in excitement to the amazing flavor coming from one's mouth). I even had to cut back on the seeds in the jalapeno pepper dishes because there was a little too much spice for me. I know, I have let my Jamaican ancestors down by not being able to handle a little jalapeno pepper.
As always, I am going to be 100% honest with you. Would I recommend this product? Absolutely, I was really proud of the exquisite meals I produced, and my husband enjoyed the meals tremendously. He also agreed that "Hello Fresh" is better than "Home Chef." The only down side to the "Hello Fresh" program is you only have 5 days to cook the meals after they are delivered so that they can stay fresh. So, I found myself under a little bit of pressure to get all of the meals cooked, especially on the weeks when we had out of town plans. Also, if you choose to cancel your plan, you have to make sure that you do it correctly because another weeks worth of food will be sent out. I did not cancel correctly, and I received an email letting me know that my food was being delivered that week. When I called "Hello Fresh," a very rude and disrespectful employee argued with me like she was picking a fight with someone on the corner. I'm not sure how she was hired, but she definitely didn't place the company in the best light.
In summary, "Hello Fresh" is definitely a product that you will enjoy. I cut all of my vegetables, I used new ingredients, and I learned how to make some really great dishes! Despite the pressure to get all of the meals cooked and the uneventful call with their customer service representative, I would still tell you to give them a shot!
