Home Chef: We tried it!
I was born in the early 1980s, and cooking has definitely changed since then. When I was a little girl I would work on my homework at the kitchen table each day after school. My mother was in the same room, making sure to be there to help me with any questions that I had, while she cooked a full course meal. This happened almost every day, at least 4 days a week.
By the 1990s, women from across the country were working more outside of the home, and unfortunately didn't always have the time to prepare the same type of meals for their family as they did in the past. Even my mother, as much as I viewed her to be a super woman, found herself in the kitchen less than before.
Now, in 2016, the modern woman's role in the kitchen has changed tremendously, but it varies from household to household.
Surprisingly, I heard about "Home Chef" from my husband. He ordered the week package and decided to surprise me with a dinner. Other than barbecue on the grill, my husband hasn't cooked for me in about ten years. So, when I left the office on a Friday night and called my husband, he told me that he had picked up some food from a local restaurant. When I walked in, I was shocked to see that the local restaurant was actually him. There was "salmon with summer vegetables," " venezuelan asado negro," "buffalo turkey meatballs," plantain, and salad. There were even sauces! I don't think that my husband has ever made a sauce in his entire life! I will say, I was grateful and appreciative that he cooked this entire spread for me. Also, it was very sexy to see him in the kitchen. My husband's "Home Chef" meal was great!
"Home Chef" is a home delivery service. First, you choose your meal plan based on dietary and delivery preferences. Second, your pre-portioned ingredients are delivered to your house in a box that keeps your items cool. Finally, you cook easy-to-follow recipes. Most meals take less than 30 minutes to prepare. Since my husband purchased two weeks worth of "Home Chef" meals. I was able to get my hands dirty and check out the product for myself.
So, after my husband cooked his grand meal, the remainder of the 2 weeks were left for me. I really enjoyed using "Home Chef." They send their recipes on loose sheets and you're able to slide it in a binder. I cooked the "tuscan chicken," "pesto shrimp and pecorino grits," and "lemon-parsley fish cakes." All of the meals were really tasty! I was blown away by how great my shrimp and sweet potato fries tasted. My grits didn't come out too well and my fish cakes weren't as tightly packed as I would of liked. However, my husband and I were really impressed with the quality and flavor in each meal.
