Cracker Barrel is the breakfast nook of the south. You are initially greeted by a row of rocking chairs and a few over-sized games of checkers. Then, you enter the doors and you are taken back a few decades through a store filled with southern and American history. The candies and toys that you haven't seen since you were a child are placed all over the room. After walking through the store, you are taken into the dining area. The decor continues to pull off this southern theme.
The menu is southern-inspired and includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, they are most known for their breakfast food. The prices are incredible. The price is definitely below the typical amount for breakfast restaurants. They serve naturally squeezed orange juice and lemonade, and a list of endless beverages. The breakfast entrees are delicious! My favorites are the pancakes, hash brown casserole, bacon, and their signature biscuits. These biscuits are hot and fluffy, and melt in your mouth. They definitely taste how "mamma used to make them"....not my "mamma" but somebody's "mamma." Don't forget to add the signature Cracker Barrel syrup onto your pancakes, or just about everything. It's really good!
I haven't tried too many of the lunch and dinner items because it's hard to go there and skip breakfast. They serve breakfast for the entire day. I did not like their fried fish, and I wasn't impressed with a few of the lunch and dinner options that I did try. However, I heard that their hamburgers are really good. I'll have to go back and try it out for you. If you have a lunch or dinner specialty that you love on their menu, please let us know.
I have never had dessert at the Cracker Barrel. What do you like?
Extra information: The restaurant does not do reservations. Take-out service is an option but they do not deliver. There are no private rooms but the restaurant has two sections, so your group could have one section if large enough. Great restaurants for families or for a couple going out for breakfast.
Would I go again? Yes, for breakfast. I love their hash brown casserole and I haven't tasted it quite as good anywhere else. If you want a southern lunch or dinner, I think you can find a better location.
